Scroll is a uniquely situated subscription service. Backed by Union Square Ventures and some of the largest publishers and platforms in the world, we are bringing together publishers to create the a more engaging way to consume media on the web. That brings with it unique opportunities and challenges as we look to grow. We are a two-sided business that is tasked with delivering a great user experience and bringing a new revenue stream to digital media. As we grow, Scroll’s Head of Finance will ensure our own financial systems are healthy and scalable while providing support for our business decisions and partnership management.


This is an opportunity to be a foundational part of a very experienced team with an important mission—ensuring journalists get paid to report the stories important to democracy and giving readers a news experience that lets them focus and engage. We're building a faster, cleaner, ad-free subscription experience that works everywhere users find articles, currently in limited beta. Requirements

Responsibilities

  • Drive the financial planning of the company, tracking performance and assessing risk
  • Set up and own the company’s financial systems
  • Oversee all audit and internal control operations, and ensure legal compliance
  • Prepare timely and detailed reports on financial performance on a quarterly and annual basis
  • Ensure partner reporting and payments are timely and accurate
  • Build and maintain key metrics for the company
  • Set targets for company and measure performance against targets
  • Work with partnership teams to present performance data and insights to partners
  • Inform growth, product and executive team with top-level and detailed business insights
Must Have
  • 5-10 years in finance or accounting role, with some experience with business analysis
  • In-depth knowledge of corporate finance and accounting principles, laws and best practices
  • Strong knowledge of financial analysis and forecasting
  • Data analysis to identify key drivers for the business and partners
  • Proficient in the use of financial management software (e.g. SAP)
  • An analytical mind the ability to inform company and partner strategy
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities
  • BSc/BA in accounting, finance or relevant field; MSc/MA is a plus

Nice to have:

  • Familiarity with statistical modeling
  • Experience working in or with two-sided marketplaces
